Hi
The following item finished yesterday evening

Item no: 140023872472
In short the bid history goes as follows:
adi00seller(private) £10,099.00 03-Sep-06 20:29:12 BST
1wother(private) £9,999.00 03-Sep-06 20:15:04 BST
adi00seller(private) £3,333.00 03-Sep-06 20:28:46 BST
ibikunle009(private) £1,999.00 03-Sep-06 20:09:08 BST
ga54ash( 12) £350.00 03-Sep-06 16:51:05 BST
ray9669( 7 ) £342.00 03-Sep-06 12:07:29 BST
ga54ash( 12) £300.00 03-Sep-06 16:49:45 BST
ga54ash( 12) £280.00 03-Sep-06 16:49:28 BST
sambillyjamie( 387) £234.00 03-Sep-06 11:22:22 BST
amit_bhola( 0 ) £130.00 02-Sep-06 18:50:32 BST
tasklean( 84) £121.00 02-Sep-06 20:02:57 BST
tasklean( 84) £111.00 02-Sep-06 20:02:48 BST
Now clearly my Nokia N80 isnt worth over £10K. So I sent a second chance offer to the highest 'realistic' bid of £350 - which still seems to high. This has another 12 hours or so to run.
Anyway i received the following email this morning:
"Dear seller
i am Mr Andrew Innes and i am happy to win your item on ebay (i am sorry for the amount i placed as i was very despirate in wining this item)and i am ready to pay for it but i will apprecaite it if you can do a favor,I am buying this item as a gift for a my step-son as a birthday gift who is currently with my mother-in-law in West Africa Nigeria and i am currently out of town and i wil like you to help me to ship it to him on my behalf as i want to build a Father to son relationship between us.
So please i will pay 30 for the shipping & postal insurance to him and i wil be paying via my paypal account( i will pay 270 for the phone),
here is the shipping address
Paul James Ayodeji"
Checking the guys history, it was a good account until a little while ago then it turned really bad. So i'm guessing he's hacked into someones account to make these silly bids.
Now i'm got going to sell the phone for 270+30, to some idiot who thinks he can dictate the price by bidding stupid amounts. Especially when i got offers upto £350. Although in likely hood its some sort of scam anyway.
A message from paypal was sent to me as well this morning stating that funds of £300 was placed into my account.
How do i proceed from here? Obviously i want to report this guy and the others which made stupid bids on the auction. But how do i go about that? I dont want to receive bad feedback from him either.
Now can i 'cancel' his bid? Is it possible? What should i do from here?
Clearly its some sort of scam, but i considering i've received the money, how is this scam likely to work? I'm guessing if i did (which i'm not going to) send him the phone, he would declare that it never arrived and try to get his money back from paypal/ebay, how does this work?
Thanks, and sorry for all the noobish question i've only sold on ebay once before and that all went brilliantly.
Jay.

Cancel unwelcome bids
http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CancelBidShowIt's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
as everyone has said beforehand it's a scam they rely on greed to get people to them to part with there goods, the paypal email will look really authentic, but as everyone states the account balance will be nil i'm afraid.
as the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true then its a scam... or something like that
i had a similar scam years ago whereby they said they would pay by postal order, which i thought ok that must be safe, but right at the last minute they ask to pay by escrow or paypal, usually with a stolen account or credit card.
ive started to pre approve my bidders for high value items to sopt these kind of things from happening because i got fed up relisting. its pretty easy to do but my put off the last minute bidders that stumble across your auction but imo its worth it.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Thanks, as i say i knew it was a scam. I didnt think about generated emails. Silly me, especially as i knew how to generate them... lol
Dont worry i was never going to send the item.
I dont actually know how to report it to ebay, thats one of the things i was asking, although i probably didnt write it very clearly.
How can i void this guy from the sale?A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!0 -
I think your best bet is to report as NPB after 7 days, get your fees back and relist.
Also just send them an email saying the condition of sale was you will only post within the uk as you state on your postage, so you will not be sending anything.
I had a similar scam from the same person. He told me his son was just back from the army and he thought he needed a treat as he was very badly wounded. I got the same paypal thingy saying the funds would clear once the buyer got the item. I informed him 2 things. (1) I would not post without recieving the money (2) I would only post to a uk address.
I got a further email from him saying that he was a man of god and his word was his bond blah blah blah etc.
It really annoyed him when I told him a man of god would honour is financial commitment that he made to me and also appreciate my selling conditions as I have these to reduce my chances of being targeted by scammers.
Needless to say I never heard from him again.0
