Fess up, who actually enjoys their workouts?

I joined Curves three weeks ago and I've been a good girl, dutifully slogging away with my 3X weekly sessions, but by god I HATE going, I HATE the workout, the only good side is that the people are nice and there are no ultra-slim gym bunnies running around in clingy clothes to put me off, in that way I prefer it to other gyms. The workouts are short so its bearable, and one or two of the machines are quite fun but the majority I just don't enjoy. Only in the West would you pay someone thirty quid a month (plus joining fee) to do something you find torturous for an hour and a half a week :rotfl:. I know some people love the gym but its just not for me!

I also got a weighted exercise hoop (hula hoop) and started doing that at the same time, and the difference in my attitude towards this and going to the gym is unbelievable. Its the first form of exercise I actually get up in the morning and want to do! I've been a lazy sod all my life and now I actually look forward to exercising. Unfortunately it actually quite hurts the following day for the first little while so I keep looking at my bruises waiting for them to go away so I can start hooping again! It's inspired me to take up horse riding again, which is another sport I used to love (but am generally too skint to do).

So is exercise a matter of necessity to you or do you enjoy it? And more tips for fun ways of exercising please! :rotfl:

I love the gym (ok love is a bit extreme_

I have a LO who has just turned a year old so the gym is my 'me time' Also, I was quite lucky and lost my body weight quickly but I want to tone up my mummy tummy so thats my motivation.

I go 4 times a week and (after reading someones excellent advice on here)
    I went with this atttude.

I can't be bothered going - i'll get up and go, if i still can't be bothered when I get there i'll come home.

I get there, still can't be bothered - i'll have 10 mins on the stepper, then i'll go.

I just keep doing that and before I know it I have done a 1.5 hour workout.

I generally also take my head phones and time it so I can watch hollyoaks at the same time :rotfl:.

I'm lucky though. I'm a student so I only pay £22.50 a month and my joining fee was £3. At £5 a session I deffo get my moneys worth :D.

    Lucky you, that's a pretty good deal! I definitely couldn't be doing with paying £50 a month for a gym. I think I am maybe more of a stay-at-home exerciser. Anti-social ;).

I used to not like going to the gym! I went with friends all we worked out and chatted, but it never felt like a proper workout.

I know go on my own and I take my TV with me! Well I take whatever I am currently watching on my iPhone, at the moment it is Veronica Mars! I will do cardio through a whole episode which is about 45 mins! Then I will do some weights and sometimes chat with people there that I know. I then go for a swim and a sauna.

I can never watch TV just on it's own, as I always feel I should be doing something else, so this solves that issue for me and it works.

I love Veronica Mars :j. Or what I've seen of it anyway, I really need to buy the DVDs! I've started Hula-ing to True Blood too lol.

I used to love going to the gym. It felt great being able to forget the day in a state of physical exertion. Now, as I don't really have time to exercise all that much I know I hate the thought of seriously exercising to the level I used to. I did used to be a bit of a Gym-Bunny (over time I gravitated to the Kitchen) and would go religiously every Sunday. Saturday too, and whenever I could get during the week. I'm hard-pressed to put in a workout on the Wii at the moment, and so I try to make my housework as much of a workout as I can.

If I could get back into it now, I'm not sure I'd be able to.

I quite enjoy my DVD and jogging.....gives me a sense of accomplishment when I've done one and got out for my jog.

  • sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, I struggle with the motivation to get myself there, sometimes I struggle with it while I'm there, other times I quite enjoy it. I usually always feel great afterwards though

The two best things about leaving school - never having to wear a beret again, and never having to set foot inside a gym again.

I'm not trying to lose weight, but have just taken up belly dancing. It's amazing, and such fun.

I'm terribly uncoordinated, but the beginner levels are surprisingly easy. The class is full of all shapes and sizes, the youngest 7 years old (attends with her mum), and the oldest in her seventies. And it's all women, so no weird men to contend with.:)

I think you really have to find something you enjoy doing so you are motivated to continue. Maybe for you, the gym isn't it? I go through phases, and start doing heaps of cardio, especially running on the treadmill, then get bored after a while and start hating it - then I know it's time to change. At the moment I do Zumba, Yoga and Pilates once a week each as well, so it's never the same thing over and over, and that keeps me much happier than running on the treadmill every single time. Now when I get on the treadmill it's great because I haven't done it for a few days. Obviously you like exercise because you like the hula hoop, so keep doing that or find some other things you enjoy as well.
