Help! What are my rights (if any....)

I've recently bought a refurbished house from a developer. We've been living in it for two weeks.
This morning the dishwasher wouldn't work, and on closer inspection there is a leak from a pipe behind it.
The developer is saying that they're not going to do anything about it because it's not a new build and it is essentially being sold as second hand with no guarantee/warantee.
However, my gut feeling tells me that whoever installed it (and obviously this was done incorrectly) is obliged to ensure it is fit for purpose which clearly it isnt. Is there anything I can do? Do I have any rights? My other gut instinct is that I don't have any rights as I didn't pay the tradesman that did the work.
Any comments welcome.

You don't live in Bath do you? I have a friend who recently bought a refurbished flat here and the whole thing is a disaster... (plumbing, electrics and gas).
Personally I would get everything checked out now, if I was you: you want to be aware of the true state of things and to ensure that nothing dangerous has been done by bodge it builders...
