one of my friends has had their JSA stopped for missing a signon/appointment. its not their fault though, they were sat on a bus in traffic, so they had to go the next morning to inform them.

they now get a letter saying JSA is stopped.

What are they supposed to do to appeal? whats the process involved? my friend apparently said that the person who wrote down what had happened that day was a very rude !!!!! to them and talking to them as though they were some sort of scum of the earth!

any advice appreciated so I can help them out with their appeal.

If they were sat on a bus in traffic, were they on their way to the JC? They could have gone to sign on late, but still on the same day. I doubt if they would have been more than an hour late.

If they were sat on a bus in traffic, going somewhere other than the JC, why weren't they on their way to the JC?

So, they got off the bus and went back home rather than turn up late?

    Surely not?

Thanks bestpud, you put it far better than I did. I was sure that I must have misunderstood!

their appointment was less than half hour before they closed that day, a very late appointment.

so obviously they could not make it as the job centre was closed by the time they got into town.

its not rocket science you know!

you can't turn up late if the job centre is already closed, what do you expect them to do, smash into the building?!!

its not their fault the bus services are slow and expensive!

Did they ring and inform the jobcentre of their predicament?

Is this the first time they've missed a sign-on date? I doubt it is, as you get a "warning letter" the first time you miss it.

So they knew the bus service is slow (and expensive - what's that got to do with it?) but decided against leaving earlier in the day given the appointment was around rush hour time and they presumably had all day to plan the trip?

I think this may be a non-starter tbh.

I agree first time offenders would get a warning ES19 form is sent out. It would be only repeat offenders that would have benefit stopped. They may not pay benefit to your friend for that day as they did not turn up to legally declare that they were actively searching for work

But here is a suggestion for your friend... Get up in the morning and go to the Job centre. Spend the day using the computers to find the jobs advertised there, use the phones to ring up and apply for those jobs. Use the computers to update CV and send it out looking for jobs. By the time this has been done it will be time to join the queue for signing on time.
How can said mate expect to keep a job if their tme keeping is so bad? Late for one appointment every 2 weeks.... disgraceful.

Your friend would have written down why she didn't make the appointment then her reason sent to a decision maker, she can appeal she just needs to fill in a appeal form. She should of left in plenty of time for the interview if it was rush hour then leave early. People travel to and from work every day in rush hour traffic so she really doesn't have good grounds for not getting there.
