This is always cheap and cheerful.

Fry a bit of chorizo (100g) with an onion for a few minutes till soft. Add two tins of tomatoes and reduce down.
    Cook pasta and add.
Serve with parmasan or other cheese.

(Nice but more expensive if made with a punnet of cherry tomatoes!)

  • Spud, look in the world food aisle of your local supermarket, as you can pick up bags of spices for pence in comparison to the little jarred ones.

My OH and I love tortellas (sp) and use to buy the kits, however we worked out that it was cheaper in the long run to buy a massive tub of tex mex seasoning for 89ish pence and wraps for £1. If you buy the wraps when they're on offer pop them in the freezer, they take minutes to defrost.

I use the tex mex seasoning to flavour chicken for pasta bakes. Yummy.

Pooky~We were saying on the DC on friday that you could sell the tops to us fellow MSE-ers.
I for one would love a couple for my hols.

I couldn't make those tops for anyone, as I made them up as I went along I've no pattern sizes to work from and couldn't get the straps to fit (it's quite a faff pinning and repinning to get them in the right place) A local seamstress should be able to help you out though and should be able to knock you some up fairly quickly.

Spud - why not give us an idea of meals you have now that you like and we'll see if we can give you some alternatives....

To be honest, I havent a clue what we eat that is so expensive. We do need to cut portions, but apart from that I'm a careful shopper :o

We do occasionally make a seafood paella which I guess it quite expensive. Let me think........

LMC, I've never ventured on to the Old Style thread. Will go off for a looksy :)

Elfen, I always find totm knocks me out for a few days. It's why I've always made sure I have as few of them as possible!

Spud, good luck with the food planning, I'm terrible at it.

    Linda, awww to the chickens.
