iphone e-mail address problems

Hello,
I THINK this is a techie problem rather than a mobile phone one but feel free to move it...
I have 3GS iphone and have recently changed my e-mail address on itunes. It all went through fine but the phone is not acknowledging the change so when i go to buy an App using the phone, it tells me the account details are now wrong. I can't see anywhere that I can change the address on the phone and assumed that when i plugged it in to charge and "sync" this should happen automatically but it hasn't.
Am I missing something obvious??

I have an iPod Touch rather than a iPhone 3GS, so it might be different, but I can change the iTunes account by opening the iTunes app and scrolling to the bottom of the page. There's a button with your account name - tap it, choose Sign Out, and then you should be able to sign in with your new address.0
