Mp3 problems

Hi all,
Thanks for all your help.
I have downloaded and used 'freerip' and once you get the hang of it, it really is quite easy (that's assuming I've done it correctly).
I need a bit of advice on one further point.
What bitrate should I be using to convert to the mp3 format? I have been using 128 bitrate so far, although I can increase or decrease it, if you tell me otherwise.
Cheers

Some CD's i copied to my hard drive then onto the mp3 player work but then again some don't - someone said it might be to to do with the bitrate but they all seem to be the same - 128kbps
Any ideas??
Thanks
Some MP3 players don't like VBR encoded files.
If they are not legally downloaded MP3 then they could be damaged MP3 or fakes.
Do they play ok on the computer?Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

128 will be fine. If you want try both 128 and 192 and opt for the one you prefer. I think 128 for pop/rock is ok.0 -
Download i-tunes
go to preferences and change the import audio to mp3, change the bitrate to desired rate, then click import, its that simple..... also if you click on the advance tab then "get cd track names" it will label all the tracks on the album.

another use for itunes below..........
Use iTunes to create MP3 ring tones for your mobile phone
After discovering my phone can play mp3 files as ring tones, I immediately grabbed some of my favourite songs and tried to crop and convert them. After trying to do so using Quicktime Pro and iTunes (far more hassle then it's worth), I gave up until I found a hint online (posted by an anonymous forumite elsewhere) that lets you do the same thing in iTunes in half the time!
First, in iTunes you need to go to Prefs, then Import, then change your import settings to mp3 (I used 112kbps, quality is less important than compactness for my ring tones). Then, find the song you want, and go through the song to figure out which part you want to be the ring tone (IE: 00:30.00 to 00:42.00) and then Command-I to get info on the song. Under the Options tab in the Get Info menu, check both start and stop time and enter the start and stop times for the ring tone section (IE: Start time 00:30.00 End Time 00:42.00). You may want to play it once to make sure it's well cropped. Then, just select the song in your library and go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3. It will automatically convert ONLY the portion of the song that you selected to a new, cropped MP3 file, which can then be dragged onto the desktop and used. This is infinitely easier than trying to crop and convert in another application, and now you can have the coolest ring tone on the block in half the time!
iTunes is free to download from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download
For those that dont know its also a great music player and easy to use music cd burn software.0
