Carpet Cleaning

There was quite a discussion recently about carpet cleaning, and quite a few people were very happy with their Bissel cleaners. So far, so good, but looking at the website, it appears that the cleaning solution is pretty expensive, and some of it would not be appropriate for us anyway, such as the pet solution, we don't have any. My question is, therefore, is it really necessary to use an expensive, specialised, solution, or is there something else that is just as effective? Rug Doctors seem to be the same, not too expensive to hire the machine, but the cleaning solution is a bit eye-watering, to say the least. I'm not too impressed with Scotchguard either, our carpet, with light use, is pretty grim after only about 7 years or so, and it was by no means cheap. I would be interested in your opinions, I'm sure that their are some pretty knowledgeable people out there. Thanks....

  • Try cleaning with just warm water or very dilute cleaning solution (1/4 of what they recommend) you will be suprised how much dirt comes out! Remember, most dirt (or soils as we say in the trade) in carpets are water soluble and should easily wash out with a flow of water and some agitation. Using little or no cleaner will help maintain the carpets conditioning - from manufacturer - and reduce/ eliminate any potential sticky residues from the cleaner itself!

You can buy cleaning solution in a janitorial/cleaning supplies store cheaper. Just phone a cleaning firm that's near you and check if they sell direct to public. I live in east London and buy from a firm and save quite a bit on cleaning supplies.
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.
