If you do go for sandwhiches make some with one slice of white bread and one of brown, then like sallypurple says cut tiny shapes out of them. Even kids who won't usually eat brown bread will often eat it like that, just because they look so cute.

Also a big thin crust pizza can be cut up with little shaped cutters, much cheaper than buying lots of little ones.

Depending how many you are catering for you can make banana 'ice creams', peel a banana, push a lolly stick into it, freeze it, then dip one end into melted chocolate and either refreeze or serve straight away. For little ones half or a third of a banana would probably be enough. You can also add sprinkles, etc to the chocolate before it sets. The other advantage of these is that you don't get melted icecream dripping all over the place if they don't eat them fast enough.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • We tended to have top hats as well. On a similar melted chocolate theme we had chocolate grapes.

Bowl of melted chocolate, lots of washed grapes. Dip one end (not lengthways) of each grape into the chocolate then place it on grease-prood paper sitting on the chocolate end which sets. The result looks like little acorns, fruity and chocolatey, and of course you could try other fruits too. I suppose you could let kids dip their own, but we always had them ready made. If there were ever any leftovers it was my favourite thing to grab!

Mind if you are doing sandwiches to have some Jam, for vegetarians and fussy eaters. Serve different sandwiches on seperate plates and give them a picture label :)

Does anyone else really fancy a good old fashion kids party meal now?

Another favourite was top hats. Get those little bun cases and drop some melted chocolate in the bottom - enough to line the base. Stick a marshmallow in the chocolate, and place a small blob of chocolate on top of the marshmallow. Put a smartie on the small blob of chocolate to hold it in place, leave until set.

My mum still sends me a parcel of these on my birthday, and I'm 25 :rotfl:

These sound like a fab idea!!! I will definately give it a go. Thanks :T

one other thing- don't forget the adults- they'll need something to eat too- try sandwiches, coffee and cake.
Sod the adults especially if it's a child's party!
You should be able to do it for a tenner if you get something like tesco value stuff. That is my normal budget for my kids' party food. They dont mind about the cake as long as it has lots of icing and preferably sweets they can pick off. Made ds a chocolate mud cake which was very well received, and easily decorated with a tube of smarties!

If your tight is not the same as my idea of tight you can order party food from m&s and by their standards it's actually cheap!

Get some oranges cut them in half lengthwise and scoop out all the flesh, (can put this in your juicer). Fill the halves with jelly and put in the fridge to set. Once set, use a wet knife and cut each half in half lengthwise again. Add a cocktail stick with some coloured paper sails.

OMG I had forgotten all about these - I used to love them!!!! I have to say that I find that most kids don't eat very much at parties. Last year I made a home made chocolate "fountain" which went down a treat but it was REALLY messy!! I just got a big plastic bowl and melted some value chocolate in it and then let the kids line up and dip marshmallows and mini donuts into it. It was like a game - if you didn't drip it you got a second go!! Kept them happy for hours!!
