Raspberry advice please
Hi all,
This is my very first year of growing and so i really do not know very much.
I planted some bare root raspberry canes at the end of March. All 5 canes seem to be doing well and have all sprouted leaves.
One of the canes has done really well and has shot up, there are quite a few flowers which are now starting to turn into fruit.
I noticed the other day that on this cane some of the leaves have started to turn brown at the edges. I have checked the plant all over and there doesn't seem to be any insects of any sort (only a couple of ants) and there are plenty of new leaves still growing.
It has been particlary hot here lately, high 20's and i have been watering every couple of days and feeding once a week.
Does anyone know what this could be?

It could be that the water is scorching the tips of the leaves when the sun hits the plant.
I tend to water everything around 5pm as the sun isnt so strong then and i dont attract the slugs
Have you tried googling?0 -
Hi poppie
Homegrown raspberries are lovely, just wanted to say that birdies love them. As soon as they start to turn red the birdies will have them away lol. Don't know if you can protect them in any way.0 -
The natural habitat for a raspberry is a woodland, where they grow best in dappled shade. They are only watered by the rain and their roots are kept cool by a carpet of leaf litter. The rotting leaves feed them gradually.
Your canes are young, so you are doing the right thing by watering them to get them established. You don't need to feed them. It's possible that the leaves are scorched or else they are being over fed. You'll be able to tell if you get a lot of growth but very few flowers.
I would remove the brown leaves and bin them. I would stop feeding the canes and instead of watering them constantly, I would give them one good bucket of water, remove any weeds that may be growing nearby and put a mulch around the base of the cane to stop the water from evaporating. You can use compost, soil, leaves or grass clippings - but don't let them touch the cane.
Good luck!0
