Looking for a free 0870 number for anti marketing use.

Sadly I've lost the link someone on MSE gave me for a site that provides free 0870 numbers and pays revenue.
I would like such a number to put on marketing forms etc, so I can be paid for receiving most of my unwanted calls.
I've done a quick google search and it turns out that a lot of the free 0870 numbers are either not free, or they don't pay out.

If they are unwanted calls, why give a number at all?

Even if they do pay out they normally require a minimum amount of traffic to be put through the number before they do so.Is it worth the effort?

Yes, I am happy that it's worth the effort, and yes I am happy to receive the calls. I only explained why I wanted an 0870 number in case anyone thought I wanted it for business use etc.
Someone on here had a brilliant link to a free number that paid revenue and had no lower limit on traffic.

Bear in mind that in just over a years time, revenue sharing on these numbers will be effectively stopped and therefore you wont get anything. At this time 0871 will also be under ICSTIS regulation which will probably mean having to register and explain your use of using an 0871 number to them. Generally, 0845 numbers don't come with revenue return unless you receive a lot, and I mean a lot, of calls on it like a call centre would.

Yes, numerous searches by me for "my own 0870" etc yielded loads of threads, but not that one.

  • I agree with bbb_uk that it's pointless setting one up at the moment because in 18ish months time they will probably start charging you and am suprised that companies are still promoting free 0870 numbers!

If you did go down the 0871 route, although it comes under ICSTIC Regulation you won't have to register your use as suggested above. Definitely recommend 0871's if you were looking for a free number as many companies will be switching to this.

OK, thanks, I'll look into that. No hurry. I do quite enjoy marketing calls if I've nothing else on, so the idea of making money from them appeals to me.

You have to realise that any number that comes under ICSTIS regulation, will need to actually pay ICSTIS for the privilege. Currently some of the revenue from 09x numbers is paid to ICSTIS and in the consultation on regulating 0871, ICSTIS is wondering whether to continue this for 0871 numbers (but obviously a smaller payment) or possibly a annual-fee (or something similar).

Therefore 0871 will not be free and will involve an annual fee or loss of some of the revenue you would normally get from it - all to pay for ICSTIS.

I assume ICSTIS is partly funded by government, the companies using 09x (and shortly 0871) numbers and the fines they may collect when a service provider falls foul of ICSTIS regulations.
