If a cleaner possibly ruined part of your carpet?

Just panicking here and hopefully over nothing! BUT I have a cleaner who today spilt quite a lot of water on our upstairs hallway..she hopes it is just water (i.e not bleach in it) but was done today at some point between 9-15am and 11.15am and is still as bad now so 10 hours on. What would you do if the worst comes to the worst and it doesn't come out? I really hope it does as 1 it is a newish carpet which is cream and 2 the shop we got it from isn't trading anymore so not as easy as replacing a bit but like my sister said it would look odd anyway!
She is a friend of mine and i am a bit of a wuss when it comes to saying things but we spent a lot of money getting it all done and not sure i can just say 'don't worry' as such..
What would you do?

I'd hire a rug doctor or borrow a carpet cleaning vax or such from a friend to simply suck the excess water.
If there is bleach in it, you will see the change in colour already, fingers crossed that isn't an issue.
Honestly, tomorrow morning, get something to suck up the water if there is that much of it anduse every towel in the house right npw and I am sure it will be fine. Our son managed to regurgitate an entire tin of Heinz tomato soup over a new cream carpet and that ended up soaked through us wetting it to stop it from soaking in and staining. Carpets can get wet, just not too wet , so soak it up and I'm sure it will be fine.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks. It is not very very very wet just very wet considering it was done hours ago! The mark is very noticable obviously being cream so will annoy me if there is the slightest mark as quite anal over the house! Will update tom and fingers crossed ok!0

it should be your cleaner who hires anything , whether she's your friend or not , also she should have insurance to cover her for this sort of accidents , public liability , if she hasn't suggest to her that she does , it isn't expensive compared to replacing a carpet , i would not expect my customers to put right any of my mishaps , acccidents do happen , being prepared to put things right , or at least sorting out someone else to put things right is the decent thing to do0 -
Hi thanks for the replys.
Well just got home and looked at it again, it is still there but much better the problem i now have is that it was obvisouly dirty water and stinks. Will call her and ask he rto come round with her carpet cleaner and have a go at getting the smell out. I agree Nick i am not paying to get it done as not my fault.0 -
Do you pay her officially and through the books with tax paid and everything or is it a friend who cleans your house and you give her some money cash in hand at the end of the week? If its the former then she should pay to sort out the problems caused and she'll have insurance to cover it if needs be, if its the latter then you really can't expect her to pay as you took your chances0

I agree with Laurz121 regarding the 'cash in hand' issue. On the other hand, what if you paid for a good carpet cleaning firm. Failing that, does your house insurance cover accidental damage?0
