Have I made the right decision in switching?

I am currently on the British Gas Click Energy 6 tarriff for gas and leccie.

I have applied to switch to E.On Fixonline 8 rate.

We live in the East Midlands area, and although the current BG prices are ever so slightly cheaper, I was inclined to switch because of anticipated energy price rises.

Have I done the right thing to switch? Or should I cancel the switch?

Thats a job for Mystic Meg.
I just tend to get the cheapest rate and not go with the fixed ones, but at least you know exactly what you'll be paying for the period of the fix.

Hi MrsAnnie - As has been said, to anticipate price rises you need to know how to use a crystal ball,
but either way, Eon's Fixonline 8 is not a fixed price tariff.
Whilst it locks you in for a year, the price gaurentee is linked to whatever their 'Standard' tariff prices are, and they can do up.

As has been all over the media, Wholesale Gas prices have risen by 45% and even Martin is saying we should all fix.
However there was a well researched article in the Telegraph last week, showing that the gas market is over supplied at present, and likely to remain so for 5 years - Your guess is as good as mine !

I'm confused - as far as I'm concerned EON Fixonline 8 IS a fixed price deal until 1st July next year - its not linked to standard prices at all??

 I also thought fixed meant fixed !!! I need to read the small print.

I had a gut feeling that I may have made a mistake requesting the switch! But as everyone has pointed out, it is a gamble and unfortnately I don't own a crystal ball :(

I am presuming that I can infact cancel the switch...

    Hi guys,

FixOnline version 8 is a fixed tariff. The unit rates and discounts are guaranteed to remain at the amount they were when you took out the tariff until 1 July 2011.

The unit prices will not change if our standard prices rise or fall. This is with the exception of any factors that are detailed in the T&C document sent out at the time of the switch.

MrsAnnie, you can cancel the switch to E.ON within 14 days of the transfer initiation date.

With FixOnline version 8 you didn’t sign up on a premium rate, the tariff was very competitive so your concern should now be, will prices fall? But if they rise, you’re safe from this.

I’d just re-check the comparison sites to ensure you’re happy this is the right tariff for your needs.

    Brian :)
