The beauty of ebay is that you can see what similar items have sold for in the past 30 days, that will help you decide on starting prices. When you search by title for an item on the left hand margin you get the option of 'completed items' tick that and re search.
Also watch your fees..second hand clothes can be very poor sellers but your listing fees will have to be paid whether or not they sell, so factor that in as well. Also remember that paypal fees can be costly on small items as there is a minimum deduction of 20p before the percentage fee is calculated.
I don't know much about cars, but your price seems a bit high for such a high mileage car, do a few quick searches online and see what else is out there as your potential buyers will almost certainly be doing the same before they look on ebay. Also, under no circumstances accept paypal on the car..
Other than that, try a few items and see how you get on, good luck.

Also, if you are going to start your items at £1, you should start them at 99p because the ebay fees are lower!:smileyheaRachel xx0

Good point. Also items you want to start at £5 would be better at £4.99 (cheaper fees than for £5 start) unless you list them on a cheap listing day when the basic listing fee is the same for any start price.rebl43 wrote:Also, if you are going to start your items at £1, you should start them at 99p because the ebay fees are lower!
Since you mention that the aim is to raise money for Xmas, it may be a good idea to leave the ballgown till just a little nearer the time. It's a difficult time of year to get good prices for them now, since Summer events where they would be worn have passed, but people won't be likely to buy them for Xmas events for at least another month, probably more.
How bad is the crack in the car windscreen? If it's not in a condition in which a customer would be happy to drive it away, then you may have trouble selling it unless you get it repaired first. It could be worth checking if your local scrapyard has a windscreen for it that you could buy cheaply, though you'd probably have to make your own arrangements for fitting it.
Your TVs would probably be better advertised in your local paper or supermarket rather than ebay.0 -
Last summer, I bulk bought lots of Christmas things to sell on ebay and sold them from November onwards at a profit.:smileyheaRachel xx0

The car is fully drivable - Ihavent seen the crack as its at my OH's work - I really dont think its that high a priced Its a UK GT which is fairly rare, all mileage was motorway round the M25, average selling price with around 100k miles is over £2000 even for imports its around £1800 with 125k miles. I know that crashed Cat C and D Celicas go for around £5-800 so I think £1000 is not alot.
Getting a new windscreen - ideas are insure and claim for £60 and two months insurance and deposit - £135 total £200, or ring arounnd windscreen fitters but guessing it will still be about £300
I agree I dont think the TVs will go anf there is a very small market for clothes. I still dunno about the books.
Cheers for the heads up on the prices its been a while since I ebayed!
I am still really unsure on wether to do it or not or wether the paypal and ebay fees will dramatically harm any profits made.

Tip on selling clothes on eBay: if they have labels, mention them in the auctions. It can help a great deal, although even designer clothes can be difficult unless you are talking Ghost specials, Vivienne Westwood, some vintage dresses and the like.

Also, you could avoid PayPal fees altogether by specifying in your auctions that you only accept cheques or postal orders. This would, however, limit your auctions to UK buyers.0
