DLA & Blue Badges

This no doubt appears somewhere, but I've had a quick look.

Can you have a Blue badge WITHOUT claiming DLA?

Or if you have a blue badge, is it likely you are claiming DLA?

Thanks

Yes you can, you apply for it and your Doctor fills in a form.

It depends on the area as to the rules for getting a BB

My council dont allow passengers to apply for a BB they only allow drivers to apply for one without the HRM DLA

The BB is for the holder which can allow a nominated driver to use it providing the BB holder is with them ie shopping @ Tescos for example

As has been popinted out, there is no uniformity in the way in which blue badges are awarded by local authorities. Some are generous, some sensible, and some downright cruel.

I think the information given above is a little.....hopeful.

You are unlikely to receive a BB if you are not in receipt of DLA at the higher rate.....this does give you an automatic badge though.

As there are so many people now claiming DLA and getting these Badges the councils have had to bring in measures to limit them, hence the ruling.
You can search your own councils policy for their particular ruling.

If you do get a BB you may also get a free bus pass for your area but you need to provide proof

TBH I only find BB useful for on street parking near the town for my daughter who is disabled often find supermarket car parks arent monitored for abuse or over subscribed very rare we find a parking space on private car park when she is with us

I found out from Asda you can park in any space in Asda (baby space included if you have a baby too) for free when showing the BB.
You are not just allowed to park in the designated disabled bays for free :)
