  • I think that this was the TV show that I saw:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_National_Trust_(TV_series)

Incidentally when I said tenants I wasn't talking about residents that live in houses there, I was talking about a couple that ran a property as a business, spent a fortune doing it up and then the National Trust doubled or tripled what the owners had to pay in charges to the National Trust each year.

ok that's different then, i didn't think that that was possible. Most properties they operate they either buy off people or are donated. I know ours was donated to them years ago. I wouldn't have thought it's common place for a property owner to be in a situation where the trust could push them out of their property though.

I would be careful going through Quidco for National Trust Cashback. There was a problem with cashback last year and I received emails from them saying they had to decline all cashback abouts relating to National Trust - sorry I dont have a copy of the emails and I dont know if the problem has been sorted out yet.

    Regards Shell

Quidco paid up no problem for my membership last summer.
  • topcashback also pay with no problems I have used them to make the national trust affordable for the last 2 years

The TV show highlighted a number of situations where the National Trust were purely obsessed with profitability, and their high ethical values that they like to portray were nowhere to be seen.

The couple running the business were in a difficult situation. They couldn't afford to pull out because of the enormous amount they had already invested, they had been told to assume an increase in charges from the National Trust of about 50% when working out their financial forecasts, and the enormous increase of nearly 200% meant they would actually be losing money.

Anyway it's a few years since I saw it and my memory might not be 100% accurate, but it certainly showed another side to the National Trust that a lot of people aren't aware of.
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Anybody remember the good old days when they paid £20 cashback via Quidco for each membership + a pair of rubbish binoculars for each applicant?

Quidco is now 30% and i believe still the rubbish binoculars. Depending on what membership you take, its not that far away from the £20.
    Joint £59.63
    family (2 adults) £63.38
    So 30% of those prices.
