Hello all
I am experiencing a problem with Outlook Express and keep getting the following message:
The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'HomeServer', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
What does this mean, and how can I fix it so that I can get into my emails?
Many thanks.
Snowy

Looks as though you have not configured the name of your ISP's mail server correctly in Outlook Express.
You don't say who your ISP is, so it's not possible to say exactly what you should change it to.
However, if you go to your ISP's website and search the Support section, you will almost certainly find a FAQ page that will take you through it step-by-step.0 -

you must have typed in "SMTP" in the OE settings for the SMTP server. Change it to the correct one.0 -
Thanks for your help fwor and tronator.
I've moved the issue along a bit but I still have a problem with the password - I've basically forgotton what it is - and don't know how to change it. I've been getting the following error message:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'Home server', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I have to own up to trying to open my emails when I was a bit tiddly, so can't remember what I did to create the problem:o
I have been over to the yahoo website as directed in the error message, gone into mail, then into options but can't find where I can reset the password for my mail server. A bit of guidance would be very much appreciated.0 -
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately I am still having trouble with the password - when I go to "send/receive" it comes up with a box with my username and with the password already there (but in astrisks of course). When I press OK I get the error message which I quoted in my message of 12.56am.
I think I will turn in now - I have to go to work in the morning - but will get back to this when I'm home.
Good night, and thanks again for your help fwor.0
