using just flight on package deal

Hi. I have been trying to find a reasonably priced flight to Izmir, Turkey next May but they are all expensive. Am I able to book a cheap package deal (I've found one at under £600 with a free child place) and just use the flight and not the accommodation or is that not allowed? Julesatplay

I do not see any reason why not after all the holiday company are still getting paid whether you use accommodation or not.
Just tell the rep on arrival that you do not need the accommodation and that way they always have spare room should someone complain about a different hotel and need moving.

i have a friend at work who has a villa in turkey, he always does this, he books in gets his room key then goes to his villa, comes back on the return day for the transfer! After all you could just be using it to sleep there who would know!

done it a few years ago in florida, flight was £350 , with motel £225. Actually went to the motel and told them we didn't like it and we're trying somewhere else ( the villa we had booked ourselves ) no probs

We did this in Spain. We got a 'mates rates' deal on a colleagues villa but the available flights were really expensive. We found a very cheap package and used those flights instead - the villa was only just round the corner from the hotel so transfers were no bother.

LOVE IT! Though if there was a fire they would be perplexed where he was...... ;)
  • Thanks guys. I also emailled ABTA in case we were told by the travel company that we weren't entitled to the flights if we didn't use the accommodation. the reply states:

"If you booked a package but did not wish to use the accommodation, this is fine and should not affect your flights. However you should let the representative know when you arrive in case they need to get in contact with you at a later date."

I have printed the reply off and will take it with me. I also found some cheapish flights on the Skyscanner website for next year, but the hotels don't seem to have been loaded up on the system yet. I'm a but dubious about booking seperately for flights and hotel in case one of them changes the dates at the last minute, so will probably do the package thing. It will save us over £400!!! More spends for us....:j
