I just wondered as I'm sure a while back someone had said on another thread that they'd had a bad experience at a place in Derby and I can't remember which place it was..
.. that and the woman was a bit 'hard sell' on the phone- and i was only booking an appointment! She made me feel like i was going to be allowed to leave until I had bought a dress. She's gonna be surprised though 'cos I aint gonna be pushed into anything. If I happen to find something I like I will go back with my mum and bridesmaid (going with M-I-L-to-be this time) :p

They seem to have a few friends on their facebook page, and they've been in business for 10 years - I know that doesn't
mean that they will be great, but fingers crossed!!
Maybe she was a bit hard sell cos she has lots of girls going in to try on dresses when they're not getting married!!?!!?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, on the Wardwick (near the old Debenhams?!) then I went in and spent AGES trying on tiaras. She was a very helpful girl, she was the store owner. She was in there the next time I went in, very helpful, but left me plenty of time to chat about it with my mum and wasn't pushy at all. I think it's good if the owner is actually working there cos they care more about customer service than a casual worker! She has previously had a store in Long Eaton iirc, so lots of experience.

Also worth a go is Pearl Boutique, on the top floor of the Westfield centre. They don't do branded dresses but their own designs, I got my gorgeous wedding dress for £255 including alterations of length and straps. The Wedding House in Alvaston is also worth a look, lovely big airy shop and loads of dresses!

ETA: We got our BM dresses from Reptonia (opp the cathedral) who were also very helpful with a HUUUUGE selection of BM and bridal gowns

That was a one off bad experience for me though!

You could try http://www.beaubellesuk.com/index_menu.html they have been very helpful (just outside derby) it looks small from the outside, but it is quite big with a large amount of dresses

Awww, thanks guys. I'm glad the one you had a bad experience with is not the one I'm booked with. It's just a one off really as I actually live in Leeds but I am visiting in-laws-to-be that weekend and thought I would take the opportunity to visit that store as they are apparently quite a big stockist of Maggie Sottero and Sottero and Midgley.
I'll maybe post afterwards about the experience... :)

I went to Brides and Gowns' sister store today, New Bride in Nottingham and didn't have the best experience. I felt they were very 'hard-sell' and that it was kind of like a conveyor belt process. I hope Brides and Gowns is different and that you have a good time! Although I think one of the main things that annoyed me was that at New Bride, their dress sample sizes are mainly around the 10-12 sizes, and, as a size 14, I found it quite frustrating. However, I know that at Brides and Gowns they have larger sample sizes, so I should have probably gone there in the first place.

The shop I tried some dresses on in last week (and actually went back to this afternoon and ordered my dress, even though it meant driving 50 miles down the M1 and back) was a completely different experience. They couldn't do enough for you and just made it perfect for me. So if anyone in Northamptonshire is looking for a dress, I would highly recommend 'Serendipity Brides' in Weedon. They are all fantastic :)
