Problem After the Service?
Hi we had our 'Clio' in on the 27th May for an MOT & Expert service & ever since the 'Exhaust gas monitor warning light' now stays on? We didn't have this problem before the service? Where do we stand with the garage?
Would they be able to sort it for free?
Thx

Exhaust gas monitoring would (I think) be the lambda sensor, they probably knocked the lead loose... But if the car drives ok, it's going to be an intermittent connection. Once the ECU see's the same fault 3 times, it flags a fault even though the car may seem fine.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Agree with Strider590 that it sounds like a lambda issue, but there is almost no reason to be anywhere near the lambda during a service, unless you've forgotten where the oil filter goes! The 'it's only happened since you saw the car' ploy is widely used, and unfortunately I very much doubt you will get anything from the garage because of the people that abuse that excuse.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Hi guys appreciate your comments the garage had mentioned a 'glow plug problem' at the service they say this could the problem? Do you agree? Th car is running fine now as it were before the service, how will the ''Exhaust gas monitor warning light' staying on affect the car?

So you're saying you would have a car in, not notice the light, do a full service, charge for it, and send it out with the light still on?
Or else how else do you explain 'it's only happened since you saw the car' when a customer comes back, if you make the assumption they're all trying it on.0 -
Mikey, we have had customers tell us rear door locks have only seized since we did an oil change!! Lights come on on the dash at any time, but because a customer had his car at a garage in the last 6months they think we should have seen it or it was our fault the light came on...that was my point.
If the light was on before the OP went in, then they should have diagnosed it as part of the service, even if only to try and get the work to fix it, not turn a blind eye. But if the light came on since the OP has driven away (ie: not in the car park as they drove off), then it really isnt the garages fault and you should treat it as a seperate trip to the workshop for diagnostics.
OP - a glow plug may indeed put that light on, but is not part of the service, only replaced when they become faulty or inefficient.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Hi before the service everything was fine the 'Exhaust gas monitor warning light' stayed on afterwards was on before, didn't expect any joy but just a bit dubious about garages! appreciate all views
I was just wondering with the so called expert servicing & diagnostic testing when they said the there was a 'glow plug problem'? why this light came on after we took it home? Any way looks like more cash to fork out. The clio by the way is 5 yrs old & still only done 21000 miles
Thx againljoe2cool0 -

Your warranty ends at the workshop door does it?
It's not a door lock, it's an engine warning light, that's on after a service.
That's exactly the sort of response I'd expect from a garage trying to get out of repairing a fault reported on the engine management system after they'd been working on the engine.
Any number of things which the garage have replaced, (or should have done) can cause a fault , either in the car park, or after they have left, if it's not properly fitted, or the wrong part, or just faulty.
They may have disturbed any other wiring in the engine bay.
It should be taken back for a full diagnostics, and if the garage could prove it wasn't them, and just a very odd coincidence, then they could talk about money.
If they won't, an independent opinion would be a good place to start.
What did they say was wrong with the glow plugs.
The light was on when it went for the service, and off when it came back, but came on later?0 -
Do you have the handbook for the car?
Check what the light actually means, on some of the clios they light up for everything, from low water, diesel filter needing cleaning, and glow plug relay faults.
It must have passed the emission test anyway.0
