My son is doing a levels (although he is 18) no student loans etc and needs a bank account for himself. There won't be a lot of cash or regular input so do not want to pay any fees if possible - something simple. any ideas?

Have you tried looking on banks websites?0

Oh yes! There is so much about accounts with features and "freebies" and "discounts" and there are a lot about "student accounts". These are focused on students at Uni with student loans and not at students at FE.:)0

Have a search of the forums as you'll find the same accounts are recommended every time0

Have done searching but again accounts of this clean and simple variety not discussed. He just needs a free account to deposit/withdraw - no more.
Have searched the inter and there is an avalanche of info on a squillion variety and configuration of accounts BUT I have failed to find this! (Perhaps have missed something?)0 -
Not all come with freebies and such.
He can get a normal current account just like any other person.
He won't be able to get one with HSBC as they require £500 a month going into the account unless he is a student at university (their teen account is 11-18s so he might be able to get that if he's quick)
Theres loads to choose from, all free, just normal current accounts.
I get the feeling you're looking for something very basic and you can't find it!

Lloyds do a student account from 17 which switches to a full student account if he wishes to go to University. No minimum amount to pay in each month and up to 2.5 % on balances up to 2,500.

Thank you. I have had a quick look and need to check what happens when he turns 19 but the Halifax and Barclays look ok. Maybe my web searching wasn't so good today??0
