This seems a strange question, but since I live in SFA/Quater I have only got my contents insurance, I have never bothered with insurance for the building.

as far as am aware you only need contents insurance as seeing that you dont own your quarters. you only need buildings insurance for your own property and not rented property. dont worry we all have days like this0

I'm in a similar position but have it anyway through a company called Protect and Serve, they are really good so have building, contents and kit all for very reasonable price. Took out building so that if we are charged for any damages to property on march out (not that I trashing the place) we may be able to claim via that.IVA Completed - 2010"Wine for my men, we ride at dawn"960

I looked into this just the other day and in your 'licence to occupy' paperwork that you had to sign to live in the property it says you should get some insurance to cover damage to the property that is caused by you ( by your neglegence, as the paperwork puts it), for example, if you left a chip pan on and it burnt the house down you would be liable for the re-build of the property!! Not many people I know have this sort of insurance (think it is liability insurance, but it can cover many other things too). It is assumed that DHE (or whoever it is nowadays) would pay as it is their building but no, we are liable. I only really thought about this recently as we are currently living in Cyprus and they made a big point of telling us we would be liable for the re-build if it was our fault. It is recommended not obligatory but maybe better safe than sorry if it is only a few quid.0
