is the new postal price cheaper for you or not?

Now that the new postal system has settled down somewhat, my postage cost has increased by around 50%, not happy. I heard that some of you guys actually find it cheaper to post now, so I have set up a poll to see overall if we are paying more or less.

At the minute some of my stuff is cheaper to send out since the "price increase", I think it is mainly down to the staff not 100% knowing what they are doing.
One item of clothing in a DVD sized jiffy bag and the post office wanted just over £2 to post so just threw it in the post box with 2 1st class stamps on and it got to the person, I would not risk it with an expensive or fragile item though
Dont thing it was last too long as surely Royal mail will be monitering the new system to see how it works and if anything is going through too cheaply0 -
generally only 12p more expensive so not too bad can still offer free P+P on my website and have put the price up 12p on ebay not too bad
- could have done without it tho

i tell you what gets me with the new charges
if its a parcel and its 1000g its £2.70
but if its 1001-1250g it suddenly jumps to 4.74!!!!
i had a parcel the otehr day and it was 1006g and it cost me the £4.74  luckily i had charged £5 as i thought it was going to be close.
but why such a big jump? surely it doesnt cost £2.04 more to sort just cos its 6g more!!!!
there should be a middle ground of £3.50 or something!!!!0 -

yeah there should be a middle ground thats quite a big weight range it there should be smaller weight increments
i sent a package larger than i usually send but it used to cost 1.36 and it cost 1.95 which i though was a bit of a jump especially when it was just free samples to a potential advertiser:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0 -
I completely agree that the difference between <1kg and 1000-1250g is way OTT!
I have been finding that most of my items are in the 250-500g range, which is all one price now (except for slim parcels which can be sent at the Large Letter rate), so I'm not having to weigh stuff individually so much, but the price increases for most light items are horrendous. The new system works out cheaper for some of my items, but more expensive overall.0 -
As my lovely local PO lady is stricter about parcels than the main office I walked into town with my items yesterday. Queue as usual out of the door and half way down the road so it took me 25 minutes to reach one of the two counter positions open (6 tills but 2 open). Got out my parcels and I can hear all the people behind me start to moan, to make it worse the lady behind me was also an ebayer and had about 50 parcels and took the only other open till, and the main PO don't hurry themselves.
By this time there was nearly a riot. They have a man on the door to direct queues and to handle people as tempers tend to flare due to queues but he decided to hop onto one of the closed till positions to stop the riot, first lady to his till blushed, looked embarrassed and pulled dozens and dozens of large letter sized envelopes from her ruck sack..yep, another ebayer.
I barely made it out alive. When I left the queue was so long that people in the street were pointing to it and wondering what was going on.

lol, thats so funny. Its amazing how it makes you feel like the lowest of the low when you are holding up the queue isnt it. My local PO is tiny and welcomes 'ebayers' as its now their main source of income but the queue can soon build behind you and you can feel peoples eyes boring into the back of you and hear their 'tuts'.
When the increases came in, I made all my items that I had always listed as Freepost that were 32p under the old system and were now large letter, second class. It doesnt seem to have affected sales and they can still upgrade to first if they want, very few do. As second class now goes up to 1kg, around half of my stuff can now be sent cheaper, albeit by second class. Again, 99% choose the second class option without upgrading. so on balance, it hasnt affected me. Judging by the feedback, I would guess that around half of the second class items still get there the next day.

Just me who has clicked yes then!
My best seller is an A3 size, 0.5 - 1 cm thick book. I now only pay 93p instead of £1.90 odd.

I thought all the old codgers liked the post office queue...gives them a chance to have a natter/ moan about the good old days, the wars, rickets, bully beef etc.Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?0 -
Most of my items are small and lightweight, previously cost 23p 2nd class, now will cost me 84p 2nd class. Not good for me
