My free view box has started smelling of FISH !!

We have eaten quite a bit of fish over the past week....more than normal and the smell seems to be lingering in the dinning room. We have tried everything to get rid of the smell and thankfully , this morning , the room smelt fresh again. I have just got home and OH has been watching freeview and the room stinks again. I have tracked the smell to the box !!!!
Any ideas ???
TIA

sounds like its the transformer to me, there usually coated in a varnish that could smell like that to some. see if its hot? is the freeview box well ventillated, can airflow get underneath and out of the top.
warning, if you can smell what seems to be the smell of fish at work? it is more than likely that the insulation is breaking down in the wiring in the walls. this can happen for two reasons, (1) old wiring or (2) the cable in the wall is reaching its maximum current draw and is starting to break down. Has anything new been installed at work? that may draw excessive current, or do you feel its old wiring?

Hi Thanks for your replies. The freeview box is about 18 months old.It seems strange that it has started to smell now. I am wondering if the boys have hidden the remains of their lunch somewhere :o
It could well be that the box is now on its last legs so I will keep a close eye on it. It seems to be working fine though.
    Thanks again

We had a similar problem. Everytime anyone had a shower we could smell fish. We called in an electrician and he said it wasn't unusual as electrical problems give off this smell. He renewed the switch to the shower and it has been ok ever since. He also said that some bakerlight can smell of fish too. Apparently the glue that used to be used had a fish content in it. Don't know how true that is as i had never heard of it before. Hope your problem is sorted out soon.

It's definately the box that is smelly. I have just found the receipt and, would you believe it, we bought it 3rd August 05 so it is just out of the gaurantee.
What do you think my chances are of returning it to Argos ??
    TIA

We had exact same thing as above we kept smelling this then the switch just gave up the ghost.
When I looked inside it was burnt.
You need to replace in my opinion.

Your freeview box is as I had posted earlier on. Yes, you should be able to get a full refund or replacement. It is more than likely the transformer the laminations of the transformer are glued together it is that you can smell. As I also wrote before please ensure that their is ventillation at both the top and bottom.
