Are PayPal Responsible for Paying my Bank Charges?

I was issuing refunds from PayPal but instead of taking it from my balance they chose to try and take from my bank account which totaled up £56 in bank charges.
When refunding it specifically states.
We will take the money from your bank if there isn't enough in your account to cover the refund amounts.
I had enough to cover the refund amounts so I accepted and continued with the refunds.
The next day I found they tried to take all the refunds from my bank account which created £56 in charges for me.
I rang up today and they said if the balance isn't in the same currency as you are refunding they take it from my bank account rather than PP balance. However when going through the process this isn't mentioned anywhere.
They should be responsible in my eyes but I just need some input and advice on what to do here.
Thanks

Read the terms and conditions of your PayPal amount carefully - it may mention this somewhere, if it does, you probably don't have a leg to stand on.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0

It is your on misfortune as it gives you options on where the source of funds come from. When making refunds, sending payments etc.
And the payments are sent instantly so more than likely if you didn't have enough in the bank the bank would pay it for you then charge you. *I think*0 -
To guy above.
It only says.
If there isn't enough funds in your account we will process from your bank account.
I'm guessing this might be in their terms though I'm not gonna give up easily on that basis as it should be clearly stated when doing the process because afterall the funds came to my account in dollars, I never transferred them to pounds so it should have just as easily refunded back in dollars just like it came in as dollars.
This is just screwy crappy service from them as usual.I work a 45 hour week. 12 hours round trip every day.

To me, common sense would tell me that if i'm paying in pounds, it would deduct from pounds balance and not the USD balance. When you receive funds in another currency it asks you if you wish to convert them straight over or whether you wish to open a 2nd balance for that currency.........this would imply they are seperate and not the same.
Otherwise they would have to confirm with you the exchange rate. Or you'd probably still be on here moaning that they gave you a crappy exchange rate and never asked you to confirm it first.
Common sense........a little goes a long way.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
