Is there anyone else out there is who isn't changing their name at all?
My mum never changed her name and it was never an issue - I know people like to say that your kids find it strange if you don't have the same name etc but tbh it never really comes up.

I'm changing mine, because it isn't mine! I kept my ex-husband's name when we divorced in 2001 to make it easier for my kids, who have now grown up. I can't wait to get rid of his name and take my new husband's!

Wife kept her maiden name, bank accounts etc. We opened a joint acc with my name and her (maiden) No problems whatever. No expense on passports, driving licence etc.
Some folk insist on writing Mrs bryanb on personal letters cards etc. But that's their problem not ours.
No children involved, they are both in their 40s
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

I still use my first husbands name. (my first husband died). I use my new name in very few places. When we got married (to my new husband) I was living in temporary accomodation as I had a house fire and didn't want to loose important documents - post was being redirected but some went a miss. Some people think I am doing something illegal but I am not.

My bank account, payroll, passport and driving licence are in my old name. I remember when I phoned up recently (now back in my place after being done up after fire) to get my passport changed - they said I would have to buy a new passport even tho I have 8 years to go on the one I have. They said as long as when I travel I use my name on passport they have no issue with it.

My new husband is ok with it all - as I said to him when my passport expires I probably will get everything changed then.

    Hope this helps.

Kind wishes - have a good wedding.

I've kept my maiden name, I'm just Mrs JenE now :j
Hubby's fine with it (though FIL doesn't get it!)
My mum never changed hers and it never bothered me as a kid, so doubt it'll bother our little ones (if we're lucky enough to have any).
Saves all the bother of changing loads of details (just emailed my bank and they've changed me to Mrs)
Any future kids will have hubby's surname.
Do what feels right to you - I've been JenE for 30 years and didn't want to be someone else (which is what it felt like for me, no criticism of anyone else's choice)
  • I'm not changing my name - it would mean having the same name as his mum and horrid illiteration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kept my name for professional purposes, and I kept my personal bank account in my name. Everything else was changed to my married name, including the joint account I had with my husband. I never had any problems.

I didn't change my name, and as my title is Dr, I don't have to deal with the whole Miss / Ms / Mrs issue.

    Hi
Someone kindly posted a link to some info on name changing on another thread about name changing and there is a bit at the bottom about who you need to tell if you are keeping your name for proffessional purposes, so I though it might be useful to you:

I think this pretty much explains the process... :)

    So thanks to 4annabella :)
