I bought a second hand hp2009v & can't stand the toxic smell coming from the casing. Other monitors I've used have no smell. Anyone help?

I'd be very worried if a "toxic" smell was coming from any part of my computer.

Do you feel hot air coming from the vents @ the back?

Without seeing it I'd guess it might be a capacitor going.

Doh, just noticed you said 'second hand'. Can't help then.

Possibly fire-damaged equipment bought as scrap and re-sold as "secondhand"?

I once worked in an office where they had a fire in a cable chamber, and they stripped out and scrapped everything - it all looked and worked fine but it was impossible to clean off the toxic chemical residue.

Sounds like an electrolytic to me , they used to have a nasty of going off with a bang.
