An Eastern European drove into the back of my car close to Luton Airport last week. He has showed me his insurance details but wants to pay £125 into my bank account to avoid loosing his no claims bonus. If I just give him my account number and sort code what devious things could he do to my without the pin number?

I'd get your car checked over fully to make sure £125 would cover ALL the damage and there's nothing further you can see.

If the accident was not your fault it will not affect your premiums or your no claims discount. If you were at fault or partly at fault then you would. You would also see increased premiums and reduction of NCD if you made a claim where the insurer could not recoup the cost from the 3rd party (eg vandalism)

Not strictly true, fault and non fault accidents are a risk factor at renewal and would have an effect on the premium.

I agree - you dont always see hidden damage to your car when someone goes into the back of you. When someone went into the back of me I thought it was just my rear bumper but my boot was crushed underneath and the new bumper needed a respray to match the car. The damage came to nearly £2000. His no claims bonus isnt your problem. If I were you I would do things properly.

Take him to the garage and let him pay them directly for the bill.

Regardless of whether you get money from this guy you should still report the claim to your insurer. I used to work for a big insurance company and the amount of people who end up with a world of grief later down the line when they thought they had sorted it all out between themselves and the other person is quite high.

Are you sure this is the case. What is the reason for having to report an accident if you don't claim for it? What are the rules on what you have to report? If someone keys my car but I don't bother claiming because it would be quicker/cheaper to sort myself do I have to report that?
