Futher to my Nitromors post earlier - I have bought a heat gun!
In my excitement to get one I didn't do any research and was wondering whether anyone could confirm that the one I've got is up to the job?
It's a Black & Decker KX2000K and it was £30 at B&Q.
I picked this one because... actually it was because I remember that the important thing with buying a hairdryer is to get the highest watt possible! :rotfl: That sounds stupider than it is - I was hoping that meant this would be powerful
It's 2000W.
It's got a variable temperature of 50 degrees up to 600 and comes with lots of handy looking scraping implements.
Does this seem like a good one to stick with?

Looks like a great tool to me. I have used 2 heat guns over the past 20 years. Well worth the money but remember not to stay too long on the same spot or you will burn the wood.......Enjoy the smell of o;d paint burning....!!!0

I think you got a result there
I know some heatguns comes with an attachment that goes into a hoover so it sucks up all the bits..
You will probably be using a plug extenstion, so make sure its completely unwound the last time I used mine in a customers house I forgot my extenstion, so customer let me borrow hers, but for some reason the heatgun kept cutting out every 20 mins or so, but would be okay again, I think it was cause the heatgun was too powerful for the extention lead, its never happened with mine.0 -
please remember fire safety too.

Don't be tempted to whack it on full heat though - start low and turn it up enough to do the job. And be careful anywhere near glass, plastic etc.
And read the box - I'm sure it'll say somewhere "Do not use this product as a hair drier"!0 -
Be carfeful useing it around any areas you have Niterode. It will want to set fire. Wash any stripping product away first. The measure of love is love without measure0

ManAtHome - yes I found the "don't use as a hairdryer" instruction! :rotfl:
Thanks for the comments everyone  I've had a quick go with it but had problems with the smoke alarms going off  Unfortunately I can't work out how to turn them off right now (mains-powered). So far it seems good though and the attachments are useful too. I'm going to have another go at working out how the smoke alarms are wired in in a minute. I don't know much about electrics so I'm hoping that they're wired into the lighting circuit and I can just turn them off at the fuse box... if they're wired into the same circuit as the plug sockets then we've got problems! :rotfl:0 -
My smoke alarms are wired into the lighting circuit.
BTW - Regarding extension leads. They have 2 ratings - one wound and one fully unwound. The fully unwound will be the highest.0
