Siemens HB750550B self clean function cracked glass door

Same as Neff problem
I set the Pyrolytic Automatic Self-Cleaning function this morning and after letting it run it's course and cool, I opened the door to "simply wipe away the dust" only to find the inner glass has cracked.
The oven was purchased in June 2006 so is out of warranty and as such Siemens are expecting me to pay all costs of replacement, but surely the glass should not just break using one of the functions of the oven? Especially as I had removed food residue and wiped down all surfaces with a damp cloth as advised in the manual?
I'm so religious now about following the manual to the letter as I've already paid for the inner glass and seal to be replaced in September 2008 after my flatmate used oven cleaner on the door and seal which is a no no and caused marks to the glass and the seal to perish.
She was only trying to be helpful, bless her and I didn't mind taking this cost on the chin as it was something we'd stuffed up, but to clean it as instructed and for glass which is less than two years old to crack just seems cheeky.
The engineer won't be out until Tuesday so we'll have no oven until then. After he's gone, what assurances will I have that this just won't happen again? The Siemens adviser wasn't able to offer me any.
Are these automatic cleaning functions even safe?!
Slighty peeved to say the least.

Blimey, that's the same oven I have! I've not had it for very long, but am about to try out the pyrolytic cleaning. Pretty scary stuff!0

There are are that have cracked and questions asked here abouts, do a search. There seem to break on ovens that have a full size glass area (no surround). My DeDeitrich has a wide surround and has not suffered breakage yet and my SO uses it all the time.0
