eon FixOnline8 discount query: when is it paid?

Had a guy round selling npower which made me query my existing eon supply. I use about 11,000 kwh/year, on a 3/8 day/night split (storage heaters+economy 7). When I first moved in, bills were around £35 a month, and theyre close to £70 now. The latest bill observes that my electricity usage is up 50% on the same period last year which is minorly confusing, as nothing's really changed in terms of living habits..

Anyhow, I'm looking at switching, and shifting to ScottishPower could save around 250 quid a year, so says MSE's energy switcher tool. I noted when I logged into my EONline accountthat I have the option to switch to eon FixOnline8, and I'll get 6%+18.7% if I switch to that and pay by DD. My question is hence:

Are the pence/kwh prices I see already including this discount? Or will I get a bill saying "before discount: 100, less dd discount: 94, less online discount: 75.3"

And is the online discount and the DD discount calculatd in parallel (100 bill less 6% of 100, less 18.7% of 100) or one after the other (100 bill, less 6% of 100, less 18.7% of 94)

thanks

    Hi cjard,

FixOnline version 8 displayed on the product change page of our website, has the discount separately, not included in the individual unit rates.

The discount is displayed as you suggest in your post. Your bill will show a total charge figure, than minus the discounts and then VAT is added last. The bill then displays the final amount.

The discount is parallel, so inline with your example it would be £100 – (total discount) = amount due.

    Hope this helps.

    Brian :)

  • Hi CJARD,
Surprised that comparasion site is not showing Fix on Line 8 as the best deal, as it is for combined Gas and Electric users. I can't work out if you are Electric only, if you are then try a couple of other sites, Uswitch is very good. Work out your annual usage not money as this isn't the accurate way and see who offers the best deal.
If you are dual fuel the EOn fix on line v.08 is the best for average users.
Good luck and I hope this helps

For dual fuel it depends on your region - Fix 8 is not cheapest everywhere (of course there's a minimal difference between the top offers so it makes no odds (for average use).)

But with Economy 7 Eon Fix 8 is not even the cheapest Eon tariff - Eon are so uncompetitive their tracker Track and Save 5 is cheaper than Fix Online 08!

British Gas usually have a decent E7 tariff.

I've just looked on the E.ON website ans FixOnline 8 is nowhere to be seen so it looks like the rumours about it being withdrawn are correct. It's been replaced by SaveOnline 2 but I haven't checked as to how this compares with FixOnline 8.

Edit. Did a quick comparison on uswitch and FixOnline 8 was still on there but not SaveOnline 2 so it doesn't look like it's been updated yet

I swear FixOnline8 was there yesterday ;) but it does now seem to have been replaced by SaveOnline2, which might well be better because I don't have mains gas, and using 10720kwh/year, 81% at night

One thing that I am finding confusing is that when I use MSE's comparison tool, it estimates £573 for the year for my usage with Scottish Power. When I then go to SP's site and use their quoter which seems identical to the uSwitch one (it even uses the same dropdowns, in the same order), SP quote me £755

So, uSwitch recommends Southern@689 and BritishGas@712 , both plans I can't find on the sites, MSE recommends ScotPower@573 (they quote 755) and Atlantic@593 (I calculate 731)

Ends up; i don't think I can rely on comparison sites and, looking at the discounts offered, which amount to 24.7% eon's actually the cheapest at £612:
    (900kwh@28p + 1300kwh@14.5p + 8600kwh@4.5p ) less £56 less 24.7%

Have a load of new tariffs just come out? the comparison sites seem useless

What region are you in? Couple of regions I tried E-on are 15 to 45% (!!!) more expensive for that sort of useage.

(Edit - and that's not including cashback. If you include that then E-on is 60% more expensive than Scottish Power!)

FixOnline 8 is still showing for my area.
It is now lower down the list on the E.On site, though.

SaveOnline 2 has identical discount and rates, but it's not fixed.
No mention of £30 penalty, and the deal is till 1st August 2011.

FixOnline 8 is gone from my area. No version 9.

SaveOnline 2 has the same discount and rates.

I presume they intend to increase the base rate,
and keep the discount the same.
