Is anyone a banker please?

Our neighbours from hell were finally given a fine of £1600 back in May. I shant go into the details but they live well, both have audis and they own a big house.

I sent an email to our solicitor asking when we would receive a cheque for this amount as its now 5 weeks since the hearing. I received an email back today, saying regrettably the cheque sent " was not honoured by their bank and the account no longer supported cheque payments"

Can anyone tell me what this means in bank speak please? Does it mean that they are overdrawn or that a particular account cant be used with a cheque book (and if so, why not). Id like to get an idea of the cause of the cheque not being honoured.

Thank you.

Sounds like the cheque bounced, and either
    1) the neighbour's account no longer has a cheque-book.
    2) the solicitor(?)'s account no longer accepts cheques as a form of payment.

It's a bit ambiguous though - who was the cheque supposed to be made out it?

Well, its not the solicitors account as they asked for the cheque to be sent directly to them after the Judgment against NFHs. It would be made out to the solicitors.
