Taking unpaid leave and benefits

I currently work for the NHS and as a trust they are overspending and have until end of financial year to be in the black.
They are hoping some people will take unpaid leave but how will this affect benefits?
Already in a bad situation re mortgage due to husband being made redundant and the mortgage company being unhelpful.
Any help/advice would be great

Are they forcing people or asking for volunteers - there may be people that can afford to take the time off unpaid however you are unlikely to get any benefits if you volunteer as you would still be employed, even if you could qualify for JSA you would likely be sanctioned as leaving (can be up to 26 weeks) and you would be in a worse position0 -
thats what i thought, will wait with fingers crossed.
