Canon Pixma IP 5200 paper problems

I have had my Canon Pixma for a few years now, but it has been looked after and not overworked.
I went ot print out a simple word document the other day, and although it was making the familar noises - mostly nozzle cleaning by the sound of it, it refused to pick up any paper fed into it. I tried single sheets, small wodges, large wodges, but although it makes a noise that suggests it is going to print, it just is not digesting any paper.
Does anyone have the answer to this please, because I was going to print off some portrait shots at the weekend, and that is now looking doubtful.
Thanks
Andy

I'm not familiar with that specific model, but generally the thing to do is to get a torch and inspect the paper pickup area for foreign objects such as slivers of paper, paper clips, etc.
If nothing's visible, what has ~probably~ happened is that the pickup rollers have perished or become polished, and are no longer gripping the paper properly. Have you tried very thin paper, as this is generally the easiest for them to feed?0 -
