SORN Fine

Hi all. Need some advice regarding a fine I received.

I have a car that I declared SORN on. I put it on my driveway. My garage has been converted into a room which has a door from the front of the house leading on from the driveway.

About 4-5 Sundays ago, it was a sunny day and decided to do my back garden. I took the car off my driveway and parked it in front of my house so I could have easy access from the back garden, through the garage room and into my front without having to go in and out of the house.

While I was in the back, a DVLA authorised company clamped the car and stuck a notice on the window.

Annoyed as I was, I paid the fine of £260 and recieved £160 because I was forced to tax the car and show it to them to receive the £160 refund.

Now, after 4 weeks, I have received a letter from the DVLA saying I had commited an offence and have to pay another £65. I accepted my first mistake and paid the fine which I thought was the end of it, but to receive another fine is just a joke.

Does anyone have any advice or know anything about this? Just to add, I live on a cul-de-sac road which has residents parking only. I didn't take it on a public road or drive it around. It was literally parked directly outside my house.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

The £260 was not a fine, but a £100 clamp release fee + £160 surety until you taxed the car, (which you were refunded)

This is a fine for having an untaxed car on the public highway

If it was parked outside the boundary of your property, even the pavement or verge, it was parked on the highway.

I would think that the extra would be the tax not paid from sorning to clamping.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
