Buying in Bolton, any local advice?

Recieved an attractive job offer Bolton, does anyone have local knowledge regarding areas, both good and bad, and if theres anywhere further afield worth considering. Currently live in the East so my knowledge is limited, but prices seem reasonable.

    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

Lots of property on the market in Bolton at the moment but quite a lot of it seems overpriced (same as everywhere I guess!)

Depends what you are looking for in terms of areas. There's some really nice countryside to the north of Bolton so it can get pretty rural pretty quick. South and east of the town merges into the Manchester sprawl so there are good access routes and transport links into Manchester.

Areas I've been told to avoid are Breightmet, Johnson Fold, parts of Daubhill, Halliwell, parts of Little Lever but then again I know people who are happy living in those areas so I guess it is pretty subjective.

Really expensive areas seem to be Heaton and Lostock - doesn't necessarily translate into best areas but they do seem to have a desirability premium attached.

Transport links around the northwest are generally pretty good so its entirely possible to live in any of the surrounding towns when working in Bolton. Can't advise on which commuting options are best though. GMPTE website is pretty good if you are likely to be using public transport.

    Hope this helps...
