I've got a good memory, but sometimes if I don't get receipts eg in a corner shop, I just put the amount into a 'notes' section on my phone/PDA and put it into my spending spreadsheet when I get home.Smashing wrote:I'm far less likely to go for an impulse buy if I know I have to write it down and be held accountable for it in my spending diary.
Me too. I often don't buy small items like a magazine or sweets because I can't be bothered to try and remember it or note it down. :rolleyes:0 -
I am trying not to use my switch card all the time as I find I can just keep spending and don't keep up to date with my money and end up overdrawn. So I have written down all outgoings and keep checking my account so that I remember whats coming out. If I don't write it down I can never remember what date of the month different things are due to be paid and then get a shock when a payment suddenly goes through.
Also, if Im shopping online or actually in a shop and can't decide whether I should buy a certain item I make myself leave it for a day or so. Sometimes after a day's 'cooling off' period I realise that it would have just been an impulse buy and Im glad I didn't. Of course, sometimes I also decide that I will buy it after all, but I still feel better that I have given myself time to think about it first.0
