Hello
I currently live in an apartment and was supposed to be moving into another apartment in 2 weeks.
As the new apartment is with the same letting agents, we did not need to pay a new bond. We just rang up and paid £150 to have our credit checks done again. As this was all done over the phone we did not sign any thing.
Just received a call from the letting agent - the apartment owner has let the apartment out to someone else now (through another agency) as they have offered more money. Is this allowed?
The fact is this is our dream home and we do not want to give it up without a fight. Is the home owner allowed to put it on the market after we had agreed to move in?
Please help me...

sadly for you then yes they can
you have not signed a contract
you have not apid any rent therefore any verbal contract which maight have been implied by the conversation has not force becasue "consideration" (ie rent payment) has not changed hands to confirm the existecne of a verbal contract
you might be able to arghue for refund of the £150 depending on what the terms of that payment are, but be aware it may be non refundable or only partly refundable as someone somewhere will have ghad to pay at least something to perform the check0 -
