Teletext holidays??

Hi,

me and my friend are hoping to get away in August for as cheap as possible and there appears to be no way of getting around the fact that Teletext holidays are often the cheapest, sometimes by upto £200.

I have heard mixed reviews about the reliability of Teletext holidays and was hoping the MSE's could help me in deciding whether it's too risky to book with them or not?

Many thanks in advance...

Teletext is used by lots and lots of different travel agents, so unless we knew specifically who you were looking at a holiday with we couldnt comment

Remember when you look at text and its say prices from 199/299 in August they are more likely to be flying the latter end of the month going in to spetember

If you need some help give me a shout

    Thanks

We're just searching at the moment but were wondering whether with teletext you pay the price they quote on the phone at time of booking or is it one of them companies that calls you up a few deys prior to departure and tell you to pay more?

Some that we've seen are with:

    mediatravel.co.uk
    travelclub.co.uk
    jetlinetravel

Or if you could advise me what to look for on the companies sites that would be greatly appreciated.

    I've booked with them today.
The holiday is the price that is quoted on the website, however add ons are expensive. For us they charged £38 each for hold baggage and wanted to charge £48 each for a transfer!!!

I called the airport company to see if I coul get luggage cheaper direct and they said no, so I had to go with the hold luggage. However, I didn't take the transfer as I found a company online who did a return transfer for 2 from airport to hotel and back for £27 for two people :)

Therefore the price quoted per person (£145) became £183 with hold baggage and then a further £14 for transfer that we booked independently equalled £197 altogether which was still cheaper than other websites and the company it was from (holiday mate) showed it as £75 per person more.

Hope this helps :) but if you do go with it, do not book the transfer and look online (we bought from airporttransfers.co.uk)

Thanks for the info meli89. I have never booked with them before so it's nice to know that others trust them. And thanks for the heads up about the transfer company. :T

    Any other experiences??

I would just like to reiterate the experience of booking transfers. I booked to go to Madeira last November. We booked with fleetway holidays, via teletext, we had to pay an extra £1.50 to use a debit card (there was no free payment option), £1 atol protection each (not included in the holiday price) and £16 per checked in bag (as the flight was actually with Easyjet) we opted for only one check in bag to save the extra, this couldn't be got round, but they wanted to charge us £38 for the transfers, each! We booked these direct and it cost us 20euro return for both of us, in a private taxi. I don't think this is just via teletext, unless they are included I believe it is always cheaper to book the transfers direct.

I booked via teletext on thursday evening.. paid for 7 days AI in Turkey in September..

Looked at my confirmation email yesterday to find the flights are with Gold Trail.. therefore no holiday.

Not had any contact to tell me what I should do or if they`re going to do anything for me.

I can`t believe they were still booking flights with GoldTrail right up until they went bust on Friday at 4pm. Someone must have heard they were on the Brink
  • Over 10 years ago, we had 2 really good value-for money-holidays to Thailand and Antigua with Teletext Holidays booked from teletext on TV and everyone we spoke to paid much more for the same holiday.
4 years ago we had a really bad experience with a holiday to Egypt booked via Teletext Holidays with Kwik Travel, who still advertise on the Teletext Holidays website. We paid for transfers that took us to our booked hotel at 11 o’clock at night, only to be told that we had no booking there as the company bill hadn’t been paid.
To cut along story short, we ended up in a different hotel, surrounded by building work and rock peckers going from dawn to dusk. The name of the travel company was Excel, who were obviously having money problems at the time and they finally went bust.
Sometimes, there are bargains to be had, but ask yourself, why are Teletext holidays so cheap? I would be very careful now when booking via Teletext and would definitely check their hotels on Tripadvisor, as they often have really bad reviews.
Would I book with them again? Yes, if I found a holiday at a bargain price that had good reviews.
