Bathroom advice please..

Hi all.
I wanted to post a photo of our bathroom in the new house. It needs updating and want some advice on how much it might cost.
It is 7'10" by 4'11 ( 2.39m by 1.5m) and we want to keep everything in the same place, just update the suite and want one of those shaped showerbaths and put in a shower power.
It is already tiled...but want to get rid of these and get new ones. We have a friend who can actually fit the suite no problem, but would we save money if we took the old tiles off ourselves? Does it have to be completely smooth to put new tiles on?
We also need new floor which will probably be something stick on..but still modern and classy, dont like cold tiles on the floor.
Also, this is why i wanted to post the pics..up the top near the shower it has some weird things sticking out the wall which i have no idea what they are..
Actually if you go here http://sarahhandy.spaces.live.com/ and click on photos and the album 'new flat' you'll be able to see the bathroom and theres one of the top above the shower and you can see what i mean..
Any advice on new bathrooms would be great, thankyou. And any costs would be even better!

Hi Sarah
Re flooring, my parents recently had a bathroom re-fitted and had Altro flooring put down. Looks dead nice, not sure on prices but you can have a look here
http://www.altro.com/en-GB/product/browse/2/1/
Also Karndean flooring is nice, not cheap but well worth it I'd say.

Both of them do 'modern/classy' I think, loads of different colours and so on, plenty of options to look a bit 'different'.0 -
Do you mean photo 31? I can't make out what is next to the extractor fan.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You could always just tile right over the top of the old tiles. Make sure that your wall is straight though. We have horrid pink tiles is ours but the wall isn't straight enough to tile over them. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0
