Need to buy a few plants today, but what ones?

It's pouring rain here so the fence and shed painting has come to a halt for the time being. Soooo, we're going to the garden centre today instead. :D

I have a small strip of earth beside a fence that is only approx 12-18 inches wide and maybe 6 - feet long that I need plants in.

I want colour in this section and preferably something that has a little bit of height (2 or 3 feet maybe?).

It would also have to be something that didn't get too bushy otherwise it will encroach on the small space we have for a table.

Any suggestions please?

Fuschias are good for a bit of height and colour and you can get hardy ones that will come back year after year, bizzy lizzies, nasturtiums and pansies are all good for low ground cover as is lobelia. hth x
Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!

That's really not wide enough for anything bushy to develop - could you put in a trellis or someother sort of structure and put climbers in that spot?

Or you could use it for some colourful perennials - there are
loads which would give some height. Penstemons are a nice height if they like the conditions - about 2/3 feet, or an early flowering plant is Monkshood which will spread to give good cover and also be about that height.

If it's sunny sunflowers would look good in a narrow bed maybe....
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:
