System restore Problem

Options
Can anyone help please. Last night my other half did a critical update for windows. When it had finished everthing on my desktop was tiny, all the fonts, the icons, the windows everything. The desktop now is only about 35% of the size it was. The same applies to the windows, small fonts etc.

I have tried system restore twice, each time it has failed with the following message. SR was unsuccessful. SR failed to extract the file (C:\programData\rapport\store) from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during SR (0 x 8007005

Can anyone tell me how to get everything back to it's normal size and more importantly how can I resolve the problem with System restore, as this is going to cause me problems in the future. Please be gentle with me as I am not a techie. Hope someone can help. TIA

Clanceygal, like you I am not very techy either, but I had the same problem once, I went into Programmes and then into 'change the appearance of the desktop fonts, this cured it for me.
    Good luck hope this helps.

Thanks renegade, that worked. I have also managed to change the size of everything in the windows as well.

All that remains now is to find out how to fix my System Restore so that it will work in the future. I have no idea why a windows update would cause all these changes.

My guess would be that you updated you video card drivers via windows update, this often sets the display on reboot to the default settings, often you then have to alter the settings to match what you really want.

I assume you're xp. The restore is very unreliable and it's always best to do it when in safemode. But even then it often fails. I use Erunt which backs up the regsitry and has saved my bacon on numerous occasions http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html
