Tony Ferguson Weightloss Programme

does anyone have any experience of the above, I imagine its a lot like the Cambridge/Lighter life diets. Pricewise I think it compares well with Cambridge

    yep looks just as ridiculous and as dangerous as all the other meal substitute diets

    ie it should only be used by people with a medical emergency

    apart from the internal damage starvation diets cause (and people have died on them) they over look one the most important factors in weight loss

    we are over weight for a reason (unless your the 0.01% with a medical condition), we eat too much, we eat the wrong things and we don't move about enough.

    starvation diets do not teach you what to eat or portion control which is a huge part of anyone's journey, why most people who do these just jump straight back up to there old weight or higher but have the added bonus of reduced muscle mass and a slower BMR meaning its even easier to put on weight and even harder to burn it off.

    based on reams of research

    still people will always go seeking the "magic bullet" easy way out, VLCD's are not healthy.

    more over there's simply no need to do it, eat healthy whole foods in a controlled amount and do a little exercise and the excess weight will go

  • I have not had any expieriene with this diet but would it imagine to be similare to slimfast, lighter life etc. I'd say give it a go maybe get a shake or two to see if you like it.

    Whilst I agree that long term a healthy diet and exercise is always key to a healthy lifestyle, I do see no harm in a short term weightloss fix like this.

    These meals are not poisonous after all and they do offer enough nutritional value if the diet is followed correctly.

    I would imaginge that People that have died on these diets would have taken their diet to far and not had healthy meals, snacks etc betwen their replacement meals.


    They main thing is that they can give you a kickstart which can be great for motivation and do get you to reduce your appetite by eating less. then to continue with a healthier life style once you've lost a bit of weight and you see that you can do it.

    I haven't tried this diet but I am also interested in finding out more.

    In the past I have used the Cambridge diet with relative success. Eric is right in someways and I agree that VLCD diets are not a longterm solution but they did work for me, the major thing that they did was made me feel a lot more in control of my relationship with food and often broke the cycle of planning my day a round food and snacking for comfort.

    If weightloss was as easy as eating less and exercising more then most overweight people would find dieting easy, this is obviously not correct as being overweight is on the increase. I have often found that is is normally people who have never had a problem with their weight that do that "get of your lazy !!!!, do a bit more and stop stuffing your face" approach to diet advice. If it was only as easy as that, social factors, financial issues, emotional issues, managing your day all play a very large part in why people are overweight!

    Anyway back on topic - this diet seems a lot easy to get than the CD / lighterlife as you are not tied to seeing someone on a weekly basis which is a good thing. I would also say I agree that the prices seems almost the same.

    CD and Lighterlife has a good success rate due the the very low carbs they have compared to that of slimfast. In order determine whether this diet would work as well, you will need to check out the nutritional info to see how it actually compares to CD or Slimfast. I presume as you can do it without supervision that is will be at the Slimfast end of the scale as opposed to a VLCD but I could be wrong!

    This diet seems quite new hence not mush feedback on this thread but I will be looking with interest.

    As I said my CD was a relative success for me I lost about 4.5 stone and have kept that weight off in the main, I will admit that I have recently put on about 8 pounds but this was because I got myself a social life and started to drink more in a very social way, I have now changed my drinking habits G and T's now with slimline tonic as opposed to white wine or bottle beer. I have used CD on and off since my initial weightloss to detox, of prepare for a special occasion like Christmas. Or sometimes as I said earlier just to break a cycle of food, if I take my eye of the ball and slip back to my old habits .

    These type of diets are not for everyone, the can be seen as a quick fix, but that quick fix can be for weeks on end and actually sticking to it takes a huge amount self will and is therefore not an easy option at all!

    llh189, I totally agree with you, I also had success with CD, but came off it, then had a bereavement and things have gone downhill since. My relationship with food is definitely emotionally related, I realise that now. But to have someone eulogising (Eric) is not in the least bit helpful. I assumed that as Boots are selling it, it was to compete with CD/Lighter Life, there is also Celebrity Slim, but not sure its available in my area.

    the hardest part of weight loss is coming to terms with the inner demons that live at the back of the mind, no matter what you do if you can not address this you will just go back to your old ways. Very few people have the will power change there lifestyle all the time without coming to terms with the root issues, took me 10 years to come to terms with mine ...

    breaking the physiological addiction / "toxicity" of "junk"/processed food is relatively easy taking only a couple of weeks. Most people have more than enough will power for two weeks.

    getting your insulin levels stable and retraining a balanced diet and proper portion sizes are a big part of the journey imo

    but the research shows VLCDs are not healthy and do harm the body

    and i am speaking from experience, I doubt anyone on these forums was as heavy as i was, or has battled the "demons" and depression for as long a I have or tried as many diets as me :)

    Hi Frankie

    I've been on Tony Ferguson for 5 days now and I'm loving it. I've never done Cambridge or Lighter Life so I can't compare it to that, but I have read a lot of diet books and have come to the conclusion that the best diet to follow is to only eat natural foods. Unfortunately this is more work than it sounds and I have not got the time or the energy to prepare foods for every meal and snack from scratch and since I have a family event at the end of August that I desperatly want to lose weight for I am cheating.

    The facts are: you replace 2 meals with a shake, soup or snack bar, you take multi vits and cromium supplement (apparantly to suppress cravings), your third meal is protein (4oz) and low-gi veggies. In addition you are supposed to have 2 portions of low-gi fruit a day, you are allowed unlimited low-gi veg and 2 - 3 treats per week including chocolate, low cal crisps, biscuits or alcohol. According to the manual you are eating 1200 - 1400 kcals per day so it's not a vlc diet like I've heard CD or LL is.

    I was worried before starting it and I thought I would be so hungry all the time but I've been so satisfied. I have had so many tempatations and I've resisted them all. I have a shake for breakfast with a fibre supplement they recommend, fruit mid morning, a bowl of salad veggies with either a soup or bar for lunch, fruit mid afternoon (which normally ends up being 4 - 4:30 coz I'm just not hungry) and then something for dinner like a chicken stirfry. I just weighed in this morning and I've lost 7 punds, which I genuinly don't believe, I have never lost this much weight ever in one week and I am not that huge (size 18, not morbidly obese catergory)

    I am under no illusion that it is healthy to lose weight at this rate, before anyone starts. I have read almost every weight loss book writen, but I feel confident that once I have lost a chunk of my weight I will be able to swap onto a healthy eating schedule and maintain a healty diet after that. Tony Ferguson does advicate switching onto a low gi-diet when you feel the time is right there is a maintenance phase where you gradually introduce carbs into your diet.

    Reading the forums on their website, a lot of people seem to struggle to stick to the diet but it is working for me at the minute and i'm just so excited.

    Sorry for the huge essay, I promise I don't work for them but I'm so incredibly excited at the minute!
