New Speed camera (to me)
photome
On a bridge over the A11 yesterday near Red Lodge area ( between Barton mills and Newmarket) there were 2 very small cameras on tripods, barely visible from the road, and a marked Van was parked further along the bridge but could only be seen when right by the bridge.
Were these speed cameras I have never seen a set up like this before despite doing 30000 plus miles a year
I was going to go and take some pics of the set up on my return but I forgot and nearly got caught out

Yes they are mobile cameras. I see this regularly around the Carlisle area on the M6. They set up one for each lane on a bridge going over the motorway. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Probably number plate recognition for tax/insurance checkup. The cars/van alongside are usually sign-written to that effect but do not need to give advance warning.
If it was a speed camera and they were not just testing/training/playing around with it then there would need to be pre-warning signs before you reached it.
However, these do not need to be temporary signs - they can be permanent signs warning you of mobile speed checks that you see every time you pass, but the speed cameras may only be operational occasionally.0 -
