Cost of skip hire

Options
Hi I have a load of rubble and various bits to get rid of and require either a skip or a hippo bag. I know that a hippo bag is about £70 to buy and have collected but does anyone know the cost of a skip for about two days?

Many thanks in advance.....

    Price depends on:

    - Where in the country you are
    - The skip company you go to
    - The size of the skip

(added cost of council permit if you have to have it put on the road on pavment - free on your own garden)

They don't usually charge by the day. You just fill it up and call them when you want it taken away.

Have a look here for reference.

I know skip hire firms will point to the cost of disposing of the contents as the major factor, but I've always thought it to be very expensive. £120+ for depositing/collecting a big bin?

Especially when you watch those smug-a-thon TV shows where they claim to have gutted and refurbished a house for a tenner, then retired on the proceeds from selling it. They never seem to mention the two grand they must have spent on skip hire...

    Anyway....rant over.

Does anyone have any suggestions for (relatively) cheap skip hire in Manchester?

PS Never make the mistake of getting anything other than a large (builders') skip. I once got one that was deposited on my drive, and I swear I've seen larger baths! I'm sure I remember protesting to the driver that I'd ordered a medium sized one, not a small - but he assured me that they did an even smaller one. Can only imagine that was a wheely-bin...

Around here (East Anglia) cheapest 6 yard is about £120 + VAT.
  • Central Scotland - 8yrd waste skip is £120 + vat - If you know where to go!

Could I point out he be realistic about the size of skip that you will need - ask advice if needed. If you overfill the skip don't be surprised if it isn't lifted or if it requested that you remove some of the contents - this can be avoided by thought going into how you load skip in the 1st place.

The usual procedure is that you pay when it is delivered to you and then give them a call to request it be uplifted. How long it takes you to fill doesn't come into it.

...if there isn't too much you could try the money saving alternative (but not labour saving!) of multiple car trips to the local tip which is what we're intending to do with our growing pile of rubble/rubbish in the back garden!

I'm sure we could easily fill a small skip straight off if we tried but the idea of paying over £100 for it seems like daylight robbery to me!
