DD went to her part time job tonight and has been suspended pending an investigation.
Aparently last Wednesday she bought a bottle of juice for the end of her shift and put it under her till. A supervisor has reported to the manager that she took a drink of the juice before her shift finished. She went to work as normal at the weekend, she even worked extra hours but when she went to work tonight she was called into the office with a manager and another supervisor who was taking notes. She told them she didnt open the drink untill she was going to the staff room after the shift but they told her if she is found to be lying it is a sackable offence. Its his word against hers. (She has got a witness that saw her open the bottle on the way to the staff room)She was told to clock off which means she wont get paid and she was to go home and they would ring her tomorrow.
Can they do this and what should she do

I can only guess what the crime might be, maybe stealing, did she keep the receipt ? whats the company policy on buying stuff before your shift ends ? should be in the handbook0

Once the results of the investigation are clear, then perhaps people will be able to offer more adice0 -
No the crime was not stealing. She bought the drink and has got the receipt. The crime was drinking from it before the end of the shift0

That wont in iteself be a crime, its more like she has/may have breached an internal rule, which she is bound by in accordance with the businesses code of conduct/disciplinary code. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Sorry; is it a rule that she isn't allowed to drink before the end of the shift?0

We cant find the handbook to check about the rules. Her previous supervisor used to allow them to have a bottle of water under the till but they recently got a new supervisor who told them they couldnt so she stopped taking it.0

So she's not allowed to have a drink during the whole of the shift? What kind of a place does she work in?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440

If it's a supermarket I think we had a thread about this kind of thing last year.0

Don't they have cctv, we used to have them covering the whole of the shop including the tills. We wouldn't have been allowed anything on the shop floor, if we bought anything then it had to be kept in our locker or tea room with the receipt signed by a supervisor.
The cctv could prove she hadn't had a drink, but if it's because it was kept under the till when she wasn't allowed, the cctv will be of no help.
