I am wanting to grow a Hedge at the bottom of my Garden.
On https://www.hedgesdirect.co.uk they sell bare root, potted and cell grown
plants, the cell grown are much cheaper.
Has anyone tried the cell grow Hedge please?
Thanks Kath

Probably much cheaper as they will be a large plug sort of size rather than a decent sized plant. You need to decide if the variety you want is fast growing enough to catch up within a short space of time or if it would take years for the cell sized plants to reach the size of the potted/bareroot plants. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Their site is pretty clear about the differences in the way one may buy hedging & the advantages & disadvantages of each approach.
For someone wanting a hedge in a year or two's time, or immediately in a weed free environment, they might be an option, but that someone would need to remember to water/weed the plants, and/or pot them on etc if growing in pots until they were more robust.
Going for bare root plants in winter would seem altogether easier, and the cheapest, fastest way to a decent sized hedge.0 -

has a good description of the pros and cons of each.I would say it depends on the size of your hedge and your budget as to choice though.
I am still old school and believe that a bare root 'gets away' faster and of course you dont have the pain of continual watering.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
Thank you all for your replies.
I have decided to order the bare roots for winter delivery.
This way I will have more time to prepare the soil and get taller plants.
I was just curious about the Cell grown plants, I hadn't heard about them before.
Many thanks
