Putting in comparison data

Apologies if this has been asked before...it's a very basic question!

I'm using Energyhelpline comparison site.
When it asks me to put in the KWH usage for electricity, i'm not sure how i work this out. I checked my old bills and my useage over the past year (according to ebico) is 3611 units (3 people, semi det house).

How to i convert the 3611 units into KWH?..is there a formula, or is 1 unit equal to 1 kwh?? (sorry to be so thick!).

Also, when i do the comparison (using costs, not kwh), British Gas will, apparently save me 20%...I thought BG were always one of the most expensive...What's going on??

Thanks
Confused of Utilities Board!

Yes you are right 1 unit of electricity is 1 kilowatt hour.
So 3611 units would have cost you £ 275 last year @7.62p/kwh.
This year Ebico will cost £ 337 @9.62p/kwh
It represents an increase of 22.5%
Rates are for the East Midlands.

Use your meter readings to get an accurate comparison.

Yes one unit is one KWh. On comparison sites you can click through to the tarrif being offered by each supplier. Based on your consumption you can work out the cost of each if you want.
  • I know what you mean about the comparison sites showing BG as the cheapest, but I think you will find that these are internet accounts only(paperless). But beware, I read somewhere that if you call BG customer service regarding these accounts, you have to call a premium rate number which could quite easily wipe out the amount of money you are saving.
