Jobcentre punishing me because THEY lost my claim

I am a British citizen, I was born here and lived here until I was a teenager. I am perfectly entitled to live in the UK and claim, for 13 weeks, benefits that I am 100% entitled to having paid social insurance and the higher rate of tax at home in Ireland for the past ten years. So please don't suggest I go home.
You're not claiming as a British Citizen though, you're claiming as an EU Citizen who is transfering their benefits from their home Member State, which is a bit different.
I don't think you would be entitled to claim as a British Citizen as you can't satisfy the residency rules at this point.
Still, I'm sorry to hear about your treatment bu the staff - it's pretty shocking.
I'm afraid I can't offer you anything more than sympathy, but best of luck.0 -

Yep, I know. I mentioned the fact I was a British Citizen because I was accused of being a "benefits tourist".0 -

It wasn't intended to sound rude, more like incredulous that you would assume that across the board, employers will fly candidates in for interviews. I don't know what line of work you are in, but in my profession this would only happen *maybe* for end-stage interviews.0 -
Thank you so much to the person who suggested I ring the International Pension Centre, you are an angel.
I just spoke to a very helpful lady who told me that yes, my job centre HAS messed up my claim. They should have sent my forms to the IPC in Newcastle and NOT to the JSA processing centre in Belfast. Had they done this, I would have begun to receive my benefits within 1-2 weeks.
I am going to the job centre now to lodge an official complaint about the mis-handling of my claim.0 -
Just a note for the people that are saying about looking for work in other areas. there is a scheme called Travel To Interview that you can retrospectively claim travel expenses from the JCP if you are claiming. They will confirm that you attended the interview and will pay you the cheapest method of transport to get to the interview, it has to be classed as beyond normal daily travelling distance.0

Good luck and hope things are sorted out faster for you. I would imagine it to be slightly hard to go back to Ireland, even if you wanted to without any money?0 -

That's not true either.
If you have been resident in Ireland then you are treated as habitually resident in the UK. Same applies the other way round.0 -
You're welcome - just hope it moves more quickly from here on in.Thank you so much to the person who suggested I ring the International Pension Centre, you are an angel.
