Courgettes taking over polytunnel. Can I cut off some leaves?

I had to cut some of the leaves from my four plants as they were taking over the bed on allotment. There is no need to grow these under cover as they manage very well outside. I do feed them and the squashes weekly.0

A lot of the courgettes I have grown have gone mushy at the end either with or without the flower still attached. Is there any particular reason for this happening?0
